I thought I should start with a cavate here. I have a full time job that pays really well. If I could find a job that paid half as much, but I got to draw all day, I would take it, but as I can't and I need money to pay my mortgage, the job comes first.
That means I draw in my spare time, and if you want to me to draw for you instead of me in that time, you need to pay me enough to motivate me do that, and the rate I set for that is the same rate I make in my day job.

Pricing
I will throw up some examples when I get the chance to time how long something takes, but effectively it breaks to $32 USD an hour plus GST (a New Zealand tax of 15% I have to pay if sell the service of illustrating)
A picture like this took several hours, and had a simplistic background, as that can double the time invested in the image. This taking a 6 hours over a period of a week to produce. $220 USD (roughly) which would include the GST I understand the pricing can seem high, and if there are better artists at cheaper rates, I strongly recommend you approach them for your commission |
